OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Wednesday that the 19-year-old arrested Sunday after his father was shot won’t be charged at this time.

Malik Williams was arrested at the scene of a midnight shooting near south 98th Avenue and Mockingbird Drive. The man was taken to Bergan Mercy, where personnel determined his injuries were not life-threatening.

Williams was initially facing charges of first-degree felony assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony, according to an earlier police report.

“There’s more investigation that needs to be done as far as interviews,” Klein said. “But at this point and time, based on the evidence we’ve seen, we’re not going to charge him. We find that based on the evidence we have, the actions he took were justified under the law. But that’s where things are at at this point.”

Digital Director Gina Dvorak contributed to this report.
