LA VISTA, Neb. (WOWT) - A woman and man were hospitalized with stab wounds Wednesday in what La Vista Police are calling a domestic violence incident.

At 10:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to Vivere Apartments on City Centre Drive and found a woman, 38, who was “bleeding profusely” from her neck, according to a Thursday news release from the La Vista Police Department.

The suspect in the incident, the woman’s 32-year-old boyfriend, was inside the apartment, “holding a large knife.” The suspect did not comply with police commands and pepper ball rounds were deployed before police took him into custody, according to the release.

The woman was taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital, where she underwent surgery for the stab wound. She was listed in critical but stable condition after surgery, and is expected to survive.

The suspect, who had stabbed himself about 20 times, also underwent surgery at Bergan. He was listed in stable condition Thursday and is on a mental health hold, the release states.

During their initial investigation, police said the victim and suspect had been “binging on alcohol and narcotics” all day Wednesday, and that led to the stabbing incident. Two boys, ages 9 and 16, were in the apartment during the incident. Police called Child Protective Services, which placed the boys with relatives, the release states.
