OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Hazy skies return again today as wildfire smoke from the west continues to drift through our area. Some patchy clouds developed this afternoon which actually helped to keep temperatures from climbing into the 90s this afternoon. However, today is likely the last day we will be able to say that as a heatwave settles in for the long haul. Temperatures this evening will hover in the low to mid-80s, falling into the 70s after sunset. We should cool into the upper 60s by morning.

We really start to feel the heat Thursday with highs climbing into the low or middle 90s. Temperatures continue to warm for Friday and the weekend, with highs in the upper 90s likely. With plenty of humidity still in the air, the heat index may climb into the low 100s Friday through Sunday.

There is one shot at relief by the end of the weekend. Scattered thunderstorms are possible Sunday evening into Monday, which may be just enough to drop temperatures into the lower 90s for Monday afternoon. However, the “break” from the heat doesn’t last long, as we are back into the upper 90s by Tuesday. We may see temperatures reach 100 by Wednesday next week, with no sign the heat comes to an end any time soon.
