Motorcyclist critically hurt in fiery crash with pickup in southwest Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a southwest Omaha crash Wednesday night.

Police at the scene told 6 News a pickup truck was traveling north on 156th Street when a Chevy Silverado hit a dirt bike going southbound while attempting to turn left onto Berry Street, between Q and Harrison streets. The Omaha Fire Department responded to the crash at 9:18 p.m.

According to Omaha Police investigators, the 26-year-old motorcyclist was thrown and the bike was pinned under the pickup. At some point, both vehicles caught on fire.

The 47-year-old driver and three passengers were able to get out of the burning pickup without injury.

Police told 6 News at the scene that the pickup driver was taken to headquarters for DUI testing. Results were not revealed in a statement from police Thursday morning.

A witness also reported the motorcycle did not have a headlight on.
