Laura Halm

Before coming to Lincoln, Laura worked as a reporter at WATE-TV in Knoxville.

East Tennessee was her home for nearly 10 years, so Laura traded in (a lot) of orange for red!

During her time in Knoxville, Laura covered many important stories including investigations into the Tennessee guardrail safety system after a crash killed 17-year old Hannah Eimers. Laura followed Hannah's parents to the state capitol, as well as Washington D.C. as the family demanded change. But Laura is probably best remembered for her Star Wars liveshots at the opening of "The Last Jedi," sharing that she had never watched any of the movies. Some might say those liveshots were...out of this galaxy.

Laura's love for people can be seen in how she serves the community. In 2018, she raised thousands of dollars taking part in Dancing with the Knoxville Stars, which purchased much needed medical equipment for East Tennessee Children's Hospital. In 2019, Laura was a member of the Rural Metro Citizen's Fire Academy, learning more about the life-saving work first responders do everyday.

In 2019, Laura was recognized by the Tennessee Education Association with the Tennessee School Bell Award for her many stories focusing on the challenges and successes parents, teachers, and students encounter.

Moving to Lincoln has been both exciting and unique for Laura, packing up during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the kindness Nebraskans have been showing her so far has been a blessing.

When Laura's not at work, she loves popping on a bike for a spin class, laughing, knitting, swing dancing, exploring historic homes, and talking about her orange cat named Coach (formerly called Coach Butch Jones).
